Happy Summer everyone!
I hope you all enjoyed your Spring because the heat is here! Our biannual Read-Around and Potluck is just around the corner on June 13th, 10:30AM-12:30PM at the Pilgrim Church located at 2850 Foothill Blvd. Please remember to go to the lower parking lot.
This is our “end of the year” party, so to speak, and I am super excited to hear from our amazing writers and poets and catch up on everybody’s work-in-progresses and passions!
A quick re-cap on last months meeting. Last month we met to discuss the state of the Writers Forum, what the financial situation looks like, what the needs are, and proposed changes to the bylaws. All members were notified of this meeting via mail, email, and social media post, and asked to weigh in on these issues and have a hand in crafting the future of the forum. This meeting was very productive, and I would like to personally thank everybody who took part in this discussion.
Some changes to the Bylaws were proposed as a result of this meeting, chief among them are changes to the number of Board Members (going from 10 to 7), specifying what constitutes a quorum of the Board (simple majority), increasing the membership dues from $35.00 annually to $40.00 annually (This was discussed at length given the increases in expenses and membership wishing to see more expert guest speakers. While some members raised concerns, the majority of members at the meeting did agree that it was needed and it was decided to move forward and put it to a vote at the June meeting.) Another change proposed was clarifying board position duties, and changing the number of meetings visitors can attend before joining from 1 meeting to 3 meetings.
These changes will be presented to the membership as a whole at the June Meeting, along with voting in the new board positions. If you would like a copy of these proposed bylaw changes ahead of the June vote, please email us and I would be happy to send you a copy to review. Copies will also be available to review at the meeting.
Speaking of Board Positions. If you are interested in serving as a board member, please reach out to me. There is a chance a previously filled position may be available due to extenuating circumstances, and a position may be open.
