Hello Writers Forum members and friends,

Fall has arrived, and with it comes a season of change, creativity, and exciting new opportunities for our community. We are thrilled to announce that the Redding Writers Forum is officially moving to our new home at the Historic IOOF Hall in downtown Redding. This beautiful and historic space will give us room to grow, host larger events, and continue building a vibrant community of writers.

October Meeting Update

In lieu of our regular October meeting, we will be hosting a very special event:

Screenwriting Workshop with Paul Zeidman

October 10th • 10 AM – 3 PM • IOOF Hall (Upstairs Amphitheater)

Paul Zeidman is an award‑winning screenwriter and podcaster, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him join us for a full day of craft, insight, and hands‑on learning. The workshop will take place in the upstairs amphitheater, and for anyone concerned about accessibility, an elevator is available.

Cost:

  • $25 for Writers Forum members
  • $35 for non‑members

Tickets may be purchased online through Eventbrite.com (non‑member pricing only), or members may pay by:

  • Mailing payment to:
    Redding Writers Forum
    2205 Hilltop #5025
    Redding, CA 96002
  • Paying at the door on the day of the event

We’ll have a break for lunch midway through the workshop, so feel free to bring something or explore nearby downtown options.

Community Event: Author’s Fair at The Shop Around the Corner

On Saturday, October 3rd, from 10 AM to 2 PM, The Shop Around the Corner Bookstore will be hosting an Author’s Fair. Several Writers Forum members will be there selling their books, meeting readers, and celebrating local literature.

It would be wonderful to see our community come out to support them. Events like this help strengthen our local writing ecosystem, and your presence makes a difference.

Industry News: Publishing Trends to Watch

The Publishing by the Numbers 2026 report was released this month, and it highlights several encouraging trends for writers of all paths:

  • Independent bookstores are opening in record numbers across the country, signaling strong support for local literary communities.
  • Audiobooks are rapidly overtaking e‑books in popularity, showing a major shift in how readers consume stories.
  • Indie authors now outnumber traditionally published authors 5 to 1, reflecting the growing strength and viability of independent publishing.

And in related news:
Spotify for Authors has just launched a new free audiobook creation tool. This may be a game‑changer for authors hoping to produce audiobooks affordably. If you’ve been curious about entering the audio market, this is a great time to explore new options.
