Here is some information about an upcoming poetry contest, forwarded to us by Writers Forum Past President George Winship,

 Poetryfest announces that $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded this year to amateur poets. Poets, especially beginners, are encouraged to enter for their chance to win.

To enter send one poem of 21 lines or less: Free Poetry Contest, PO Box 3561, Ashland, OR 97520. Or enter online at www.poetryfest.tv. A winner’s list will be sent to all entrants. The deadline for entering is July 31, 2014.

“Any poet, published or not, can be a winner,” says Poetry Editor Betty Starr. “When people learn about our contest, they suddenly realize that their own poetic talent can win cash prizes, as well as garner national recognition.” You may email your poem directly to Betty at poetry@poetryfest.tv, be sure your name and address are with the poem. “Even if you have written only one poem,” Betty says, “send it to me. I know this contest will produce exciting discoveries!”
